Stage 1: 12-24 Months

Building Nurturing Relationships

Respectful, nurturing relationships are vital during Stage 1 of our early years programme. Parents are a child’s first teachers, and for this reason, parental input is key to pupils' all-rounded development. Through consultation and collaboration, we support parents in their role as the most important part of their child’s life. 

We believe that children learn best when learning together. Much of our work is collaborative and involves children learning from and playing with each other, improving their social and communication skills.

By providing environments that feel safe, we ensure that our little ones become confident enough to express their needs while also fostering a sense of belonging and well-being. Emphasis is placed on emotional and social development as the children grow into independent, confident explorers. To promote discovery and exploration, we have spacious learning facilities that are safe, dynamic and beautifully designed.

Stage 2: 2-3 Years

Encouraging Independent Investigation

In Stage 2 of our early years programme, children are taught to become independent investigators. Our curriculum is carefully crafted to promote investigatory skills with an emphasis on language development and communication. By exposing our pupils to different experiences, we encourage them to ask questions and participate in various learning opportunities arising in their environment.

Stage 3: 3-4 Years

Discussion and Discovery

Children in Stage 3 are considered to be competent researchers who actively contribute to their own learning. The skills learnt in previous stages are used to explore their provocations through discussion and discovery. By ensuring that children feel cared for and secure, we help them to explore and enjoy their learning experiences, while a calm, uncluttered environment further boosts engagement.

Our main focus in Stage 3, and indeed across stages, is to nurture the individual. As children advance through our syllabus, we engage them in longer project-based lessons. We provide rich and varied provocations that align with their unique interests. The development of language is key in this age group and many areas will encourage communication between peers. Role play and small-world play become increasingly important as our pupils build vocabulary and begin to replicate that which they see in the world.

Stage 4: 4-5 Years

Pre-Literacy and Pre-Numeracy

Children’s readiness for formal learning is the focus of our Stage 4 programme. Thus far, they have grown from explorers into investigators and researchers, with the ability to complete tasks collaboratively with their classmates. Having gained the fundamentals for effective learning, they are now ready to achieve their full potential. 

Our Stage 4 syllabus is meticulously crafted to incorporate challenging, well-paced lessons in the following areas: pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, social and emotional readiness, and physical readiness for learning.

As the eldest pupils in the Early Learning School, Stage 4 pupils can take on additional responsibility, becoming role models for the younger children. This helps build confidence and empowers them to flourish academically in a small and nurturing environment. By observing children during playtime and in conversations with their peers and teachers, we can successfully plan and document the next steps in each child’s education.
