Our Reggio Emilia-Inspired Approach

The origins of our educational philosophy can be traced to the Italian city of Reggio Emilia. In the wake of World War 2, local parents were determined to create a more hopeful, sustainable future for their children. The community came together to build the very first nursery school. Many years later, a group of schools in the Reggio Emilia area were voted the best schools in the world. With this accolade came increased international interest, and so others countries started to explore and apply the Reggio Emilia teaching approach.

The Reggio Emilia early learning philosophy provides a structured approach to nurturing children's intellectual and emotional development, while laying the groundwork for Primary School and beyond. It emphasises a child-centred, inquiry-based learning environment where teachers carefully observe and document each child's interests to tailor educational experiences. Through thoughtfully designed projects, children engage in hands-on activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. The philosophy values collaboration between children, teachers, and parents, and uses diverse forms of expression – such as storytelling, art, music, and role play – as essential tools for learning. This structured framework helps children develop independence, resilience, and a solid foundation for lifelong learning.

Today the Inspired group, which comprises more than 110 schools globally, embraces this philosophy and successfully integrates it at our Early Learning Schools

A Stimulating Path to Holistic Development

Children are at the centre of our early years programme. Rather than targets of instruction, we see them as having the active role of an apprentice and researcher. Each child is strongly encouraged to select and explore topics and activities for themselves, increasing engagement, building independence and stimulating their curiosity.

Our activities are often project-based and allow children to explore, observe, hypothesise, question, and discuss to clarify their understanding. Children are also viewed as social beings: we focus on children in relation to other children, the family, teachers and the community, instead of on each child in isolation.
